Endoscopic breast augmentation is a video-assisted procedure that uses a viewing instrument called an endoscope to help surgeons see the internal breast structures. The endoscope consists of a tube and a camera and can be inserted through small incisions in inconspicuous locations, such as under the arm.
During breast surgery in Boston, I use the endoscope to project images from inside the body onto a screen. Using the screen as a guide, I complete the operation with small surgical instruments inserted through incisions in discrete locations. Although this approach is more complex and more difficult to perform than traditional breast augmentation, I’ve found that it provides me with greater control over the outcome and leads to a better breast augmentation.
